A photograph saved from a website is usually WebP now, and JPG is the format that every upload form, every printing service, and every elderly program still takes. For a photograph the JPG is also small, so little is lost by going this way.
Any transparent area becomes solid, filled here with black. The picture is also compressed again, so a very low quality setting will show.
If the WebP has a clear background that you want to keep, convert it to PNG instead. JPG has no way to record transparency at all.
